Finding the Right Cashmere Jumper

Some days you want cashmere close to the skin. A light layer under a coat, over a shirt, or on its own when the heating hasn't caught up. Other days you want the jumper to do the work. Something with weight to it, standing up to the weather on its own.

Yes, but it's the fibre rather than a fault. Shorter fibres work loose in the first few weeks of wear and gather on the surface. A cashmere comb lifts them away in a couple of minutes, and it eases off the more you wear it.

What's the difference between cashmere and lambswool?

Cashmere is the softer of the two against bare skin, and warmer for its weight, which is where the price difference comes from. Lambswool is lightweight and takes a lot of wear. Both are made to be worn day to day.

Why is cashmere more expensive than other wool?

It comes down to how little of it there is. Cashmere is combed from the fine undercoat of the cashmere goat, and a single animal produces only a small amount each year. That scarcity sits behind the price.

How do I get the size right when buying a cashmere jumper as a gift?

Go for a relaxed shape rather than a slim one. Our boxy and cropped styles are cut with room in them, so a size either side still sits well. The signature knits are cut closer to the body, so they need a more confident guess.
