Meet the local: Craig McGinlay
Earlier this month we met with Scottish actor Craig McGinlay, best known for his roles in King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, BAFTA winning Blue Lights and most recently Borderline. We headed east, along the coast to Seacliff Beach.
1. You're currently living in Perthshire, do you get to visit Edinburgh often?
Edinburgh’s a special place and I feel lucky to have it on my doorstep so I try to visit every two to three months. It’s pretty amazing all year round but I love the buzz of going to the Six Nations rugby matches at Murrayfield, along with the Edinburgh Fringe, TV, and Film Festivals. There’s rarely a month when there’s not something on. I’d love to get the chance to visit more often but with work, and looking after my golden retriever, Skye, it’s trickier than it used to be.
2. How would you spend your ideal afternoon in Edinburgh?
Going for lunch with friends before a Six Nations match and soaking up the atmosphere. The energy in the city before, during, and after a game is always incredible. For somewhere special, Gleneagles Townhouse ticks all the boxes and you can't beat the view of the castle from the rooftop of the Johnnie Walker building on Princes Street.
3. If friends were in Edinburgh, what would you suggest they do?
If it was during August, I’d strongly recommend they take advantage of the Fringe Festival. The usual relaxed pace of life is swapped for a month-long, packed, high-energy, and immersive experience. The city really does come to life, and I always love seeing people from all over the world fill the streets and enjoy its mix of culture, art and intellect.
4. Is there anywhere outside of Edinburgh where you enjoy spending time?
North Berwick, is an amazing part of the world and I’ve not been there enough so I’m delighted to be shooting here today. I was lucky enough to be asked to play in the Scottish Open at the Renaissance Golf Course with Billy Horschel and Laurie Canter which isn’t far from here. I love my golf so that was a special day playing with these pros at the top of their game and in such a beautiful location. My golf was ok but their company was much better!
